Since this initiative began in 2014, the centre has seen almost 200 children between the ages of ten and twelve

Once again this year Miranza IBO is providing free eye check-ups to Saharan children from the Refugee Camps located in the Algerian desert who have been taken in by families from Palma through the Vacaciones en Paz Project. This charity programme began in 2014 and, throughout this time, has helped more than 180 children between the ages of ten and twelve.

Thanks to the Vacaciones en Paz programme, minors from the Refugee Camps are taken in by families from Palma over the summer to provide them with healthcare

Dra. Kyriaki Souki, paediatric ophthalmology specialist at Miranza IBO, attended to the minors visiting the centre in order to promote the children’s eye health check-up and identify and treat any problems. According to Dr Souki, “thanks to the start of the Vacaciones en Paz programme, we are able to attend to this group of children to identify any eye complications or disorders, treat them, and avoid any future complications”.

have been given free glasses thanks to the agreement that Miranza IBO has reached with Opticalia Lux in Palma de Mallorca to provide the prescription lenses and frames.

This programme has been possible thanks to Asociación Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de las Islas Baleares (AAPSIB – Friends of the Saharan People Association of the Balearic Islands). Under the slogan “Take in a smile, take in a Saharan child”, the aim of the charity project is to offer quality healthcare adapted to the special situation of the minors. Therefore, in addition to eye check-ups, medical check-ups and nutritional analyses are provided during the children’s stay in Spain.
