United in support of eye health for people in vulnerable situations
Miranza Instituto Gómez-Ulla and Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago have formalized an agreement that will provide comprehensive ophthalmological care to people who face difficulties accessing healthcare services.
United in support of eye health. Miranza Instituto Gómez-Ulla and Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago de Compostela have signed a collaboration agreement to facilitate access to ophthalmological care for people in vulnerable situations. The agreement, signed at the Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago facilities by the clinic’s Managing Director, Javier Gómez-Ulla, and the Director of Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago, Pilar Farjas, will help ensure comprehensive eye care covering prevention, diagnosis and, when necessary, treatment of eye conditions.
This partnership has been established with the shared objective of facilitating access to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of eye conditions for people who, due to their social or economic circumstances, may face difficulties in receiving specialized care. Through this collaboration, both organizations will work to reduce barriers to accessing eye health services and help improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable groups.
For MiranzaInstituto Gómez-Ulla, this collaboration reinforces its commitment to eye health and to developing initiatives that promote more accessible and inclusive healthcare. Prevention and early diagnosis are key to preventing visual problems from becoming an additional obstacle to personal independence, education or access to the labour market.
Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago, with extensive experience in supporting people in vulnerable situations, is thus adding a new service to provide comprehensive care to those participating in its social action programmes.
Both organizations recognize that eye health is an essential part of people’s overall well-being and that collaboration between healthcare and social organizations is fundamental to building a society with greater opportunities for everyone.
Two programmes bringing eye health prevention and care closer to those who need it
The agreement includes the launch of the “Vemos Contigo” and “Por tus ojos” programmes, initiatives developed by Miranza Instituto Gómez-Ulla to promote the prevention and care of eye health.
As part of the “Vemos Contigo” programme, professionals from MiranzaInstituto Gómez-Ulla will carry out vision screening campaigns and awareness-raising activities to promote healthy habits and facilitate the early detection of potential eye conditions.
Meanwhile, the “Por tus ojos” programme will enable people who, following an initial assessment, require specific ophthalmological care to access a specialist evaluation and, when necessary, the most appropriate treatment options, in coordination with Cáritas Diocesana de Santiago.
