
Dr. Nicolás Alejandre, Medical Director of IMO Grupo Miranza Madrid, appointed as new vice president of SESOC
The expert assumes the vice presidency of SESOC following the celebration of the organization’s 23rd Annual Meeting, held in Madrid.
Dr. Nicolás Alejandre, Medical Director of IMO Grupo Miranza Madrid, has been appointed vice president of the Sociedad Española de Superficie Ocular y Córnea (SESOC), one of the leading scientific organizations in the field of specialized ophthalmology.
This appointment recognizes not only his professional career but also his sustained commitment to advancing knowledge and continuously improving the management of corneal and ocular surface diseases.
SESOC promotes continuous education, collaboration among specialists, and the development of best clinical practices to improve care for patients with complex eye conditions. Until now, Dr. Alejandre has served as Secretary General, where he has actively contributed to these initiatives, strengthening his role within the ophthalmology community.
Since joining IMO Grupo Miranza Madrid as Medical Director in 2025, he has led the coordination of multidisciplinary teams and the implementation of cutting-edge clinical protocols, with a clear focus on delivering medicine based on excellence, innovation, and highly personalized care. His clinical practice is characterized by a combination of surgical precision, sound medical judgment, and a strong commitment to patient well-being and safety.
Establishedcareer in ophthalmic surgery
Previously, Dr. Nicolás Alejandre developed a significant part of his career at the Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz (Madrid), where he served as Head of Section and specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal diseases. His surgical experience includes highly complex procedures such as cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and corneal transplantation—fields in which he has demonstrated a high level of specialization and proven clinical outcomes.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Alejandre maintains a strong research track record, participating in projects that have contributed meaningful advances in the management of keratoconus and in the use of cell-based therapies to control inflammation of the ocular surface.
At this institution, he also played a key role in training new specialists as a resident tutor and lecturer at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, actively contributing to knowledge transfer and the development of future generations of ophthalmologists.
He holds a degree and a PhD in Medicine (Cum Laude) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Health. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of EuCornea, strengthening his ties with leading international scientific institutions in the field of ophthalmology.
