Blepharoplasty before summer: how to achieve a fresher, more natural-looking appearance
With the arrival of summer, many people take the opportunity to learn about treatments that can help rejuvenate the face and reduce signs of fatigue. Among them, blepharoplasty is one of the most sought-after procedures. However, achieving a more rested and natural-looking appearance does not depend solely on removing excess skin or under-eye bags. Specialists emphasize the importance of evaluating each case individually and considering factors such as eyelid volume and eyebrow position in order to achieve harmonious results that preserve the patient’s natural facial expression.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct excess skin and fat deposits in the upper and lower eyelids. Although its primary goal is to rejuvenate the eye area, the approach to this surgery has evolved over time. Today, specialists focus on preserving the natural anatomy of the periocular region and avoiding outcomes that could alter the overall facial expression.
Techniques aimed at achieving a more natural result
In this regard, one of the most important aspects is the management of upper eyelid fat. According to Dr. Marco Sales, an oculoplastics specialist at IMO Grupo Miranza in Madrid, “removing an excessive amount can cause the eye to appear hollow”, which, rather than creating a rejuvenated look, may result in an artificial or even older appearance. For this reason, current techniques tend to be more conservative, preserving the necessary volume to maintain a fresh and natural-looking appearance.
Lower eyelid surgery has also seen significant advances. When the patient’s anatomy allows, one of the most commonly used approaches is the transconjunctival technique, which provides access to the fat pockets through the inner side of the eyelid. Because the procedure is performed from inside the eyelid, visible scarring is avoided and the external structures of the eyelid are better preserved, helping to achieve more natural results.

However, the eyelids are not the only factor responsible for the appearance of the eyes. The position of the eyebrows also plays a key role in facial expression. In fact, as Dr. Alejandra Amesty, an oculoplastics specialist at Vissum Grupo Miranza and Miranza Clínica Palomares, points out, “the eyebrow is the natural continuation of the eyelid.” Over time, “it is common for the tail of the eyebrow to gradually descend, contributing to an appearance of fatigue, sadness, or lack of vitality”, she adds.
For this reason, specialists evaluate the entire periocular region during the preoperative assessment. In some patients, blepharoplasty may be complemented with a procedure known as a brow lift (cejaplasty), which is designed to reposition the eyebrow and restore its natural height. According to Dr. Amesty, “slightly elevating the tail of the eyebrow can transform the facial expression, creating a greater sense of freshness, brightness, and even happiness”.
