
Miranza finalizes preparations for the sixth edition of Trends in Retina, an international summit on retinal pathology
A new date has been set on the calendar for ophthalmologists around the world interested in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases. The Barcelona headquarters of IMO Grupo Miranza will host the sixth edition of Trends in Retina (TIR2026) from November 12 to 14. This is one of the most relevant international meetings in the field of medical and surgical retina, and it is expected to welcome more than 300 experts from over a dozen countries.
This congress will bring together leading eye health professionals to discuss the most significant advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of retinal diseases, as well as in clinical research and emerging new technologies.
TIR2026 will take place at the IMO Grupo Miranza Barcelona Convention Center and is designed with a practical approach, promoting dynamic learning and scientific updating for attendees. The program will include medical and surgical retina sessions, keynote lectures, analysis of complex clinical cases, and presentations on innovative therapies and cutting-edge technologies that are shaping the future direction of the specialty.
A committee with extensive expertise
The organizing committee of TIR2026 is composed of Dr. María Cristina Bohórquez, ophthalmologist in the retina and vitreous department at IMO Grupo Miranza; Dr. Borja Corcóstegui, co-founder and former medical and scientific director of IMO Grupo Miranza and emeritus CLF member of Miranza; Dr. José García-Arumí, specialist at IMO Grupo Miranza and full member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (Real Academia de Medicina de Cataluña); Dr. Carlos Mateo, founding partner and retina specialist ophthalmologist at IMO Grupo Miranza; Dr. José María Ruiz Moreno, specialist at IMO Grupo Miranza; Dr. Jorge Ruiz Medrano, specialist at IMO Grupo Miranza; and Dr. Xavier Subiràs, specialist at IMO Grupo Miranza.
The organizers have structured the congress to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals, with formats designed for discussion and clinical debate, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in spreading best practices and therapeutic advances.
Dr. Mateo explains that “Trends in Retina has become an essential forum for driving the advancement of medical and surgical retina on an international scale. The 2026 edition reinforces our commitment to sharing high-level knowledge, fostering innovation, and actively contributing to improving the management of retinal diseases from a clinical and scientific perspective”.

The latest edition of Trends in Retina was held in 2024 and placed special emphasis on new gene therapies, including the presentation of promising research results in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Clinical studies on hereditary retinal dystrophies were also discussed, along with other innovations such as practical workshops on ocular ultrasound, diagnostic advances, surgical technique sessions, emerging technologies, as well as clinical debates and vitreoretinal surgery videos.
