Miranza once again promotes the prevention of retinal diseases through screening campaigns in various cities across Spain
Once again, we are setting up early detection units at various locations to perform eye fundus examinations.
On the occasion of World Retina Day, which will take place on September 27, and with the aim of contributing to the prevention of retinal diseases and helping to avoid associated vision loss, Miranza has once again launched its early detection campaign, offering eye examinations in different cities across Spain.
The screenings will take place from September 14 to 25 and will consist of a fundus examination using state-of-the-art portable equipment. Based on the results, specialists will determine whether a more comprehensive retinal examination is required and, in cases where a retinal condition is suspected, will guide patients to facilitate the earliest possible diagnosis and treatment.
Prevention: the best ally
According to a study by the Asociación Mácula Retina, more than two billion people worldwide suffer from vision loss due to degenerative retinal diseases. In Spain, almost 80% of the population has some form of visual impairment, and it is estimated that nearly 8 million Spaniards will experience visual problems by 2030, representing a 103% increase over the course of a decade.
For this reason, Miranza’s experts stress that “detecting a potential retinal abnormality early allows us to act sooner and improve patients’ prospects if treatment is eventually required”. In this regard, the campaign focuses particularly on identifying and monitoring people with risk factors such as advanced age, high myopia, diabetes, smoking and hypertension, among others.
Regular eye examinations
The retina is a thin layer located at the back of the eye that plays a fundamental role in vision, as it converts the light entering the eye into signals that allow the brain to form images. Any alteration or damage to this structure can impair visual function and, in some cases, lead to irreversible consequences. The main retinal conditions include AMD (age-related macular degeneration), diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment, among others.
Miranza’s retinal specialists warn that “some retinal diseases can progress without causing noticeable symptoms in their early stages and, when diagnosed late, can result in significant vision loss”. For this reason, regular eye examinations and early detection are essential, as they allow potential abnormalities to be identified at an early stage and, when treatment is available, enable timely intervention to control disease progression and preserve vision.
As part of World Retina Day, Miranza will carry out eye examinations from September 14 to 25 in cities including Albacete, Alicante, Benidorm, Málaga, Mallorca, San Sebastián, Santiago de Compostela, Seville and Tenerife, among others.
