We reaffirm our commitment to social responsibility by supporting a group facing challenges in accessing specialized ophthalmologic care

As a result of the collaboration agreement between Miranza and Down España, people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities will benefit from improved eye health.

People with Down syndrome have a high prevalence of vision problems from a very early age, such as strabismus, refractive errors, or congenital cataracts. Without proper ophthalmologic follow-up, these conditions can significantly impact cognitive development, communication, and personal autonomy. That is why early detection protocols and trained professionals capable of providing care tailored to their specific needs are essential.

The collaboration includes an informative session for the patients’ families, where the main ocular conditions affecting this group and their possible treatments will be discussed. In addition, special conditions will be offered to all individuals who can prove they are beneficiaries of Down España or any of its federated entities. The agreement also includes the possibility for Down España member families to access advisory consultations on eye health.

In this way, we reinforce our commitment to social responsibility and to providing inclusive treatments for a group that often struggles to access specialized ophthalmologic care. This lack of access can lead to underdiagnosis of vision problems and delayed treatment, which may limit the autonomy and integration of patients within their environment.

Regarding this project, Ramón Berra, CEO of Miranza, explains: “Being able to offer our medical expertise, our network of specialized clinics, and our joint work with a leading organization like Down España will allow us to provide higher-quality care. It will also help drive a transformation in how the healthcare system interacts with people with intellectual disabilities.”

Agustín Matía, Managing Director of Down España, highlights the importance of this agreement for overall well-being and personal growth:“Visual health is a fundamental aspect of general well-being, and this agreement with the Miranza Group — to whom we are very grateful for their commitment — will help us improve and maintain the eye health of the people in our community.”
