We are expanding our facilities in Bilbao. Miranza has launched a new state-of-the-art surgical area, featuring two operating rooms dedicated to major outpatient surgery (CMA) and refractive surgery, respectively, both located at Miranza Clínica Begoña. These new areas increase Miranza’s surgical capacity in the capital of Biscay, where we already have two operating rooms at Miranza COI, which are currently undergoing refurbishment.

The expansion includes two new surgical spaces totaling approximately 400 square meters, exclusively dedicated to ophthalmic surgery. One of the new operating rooms is intended for CMA, a modality that allows for more complex procedures without the need for hospital admission, as all surgeries at Miranza are performed on an outpatient basis. This model enables a more comfortable recovery for patients, who can return home on the same day of the procedure while maintaining continuous specialized medical follow-up.

The second operating room in the new surgical area is focused on refractive surgery to correct vision defects such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, using advanced techniques based on high-precision laser technology. These procedures allow many patients to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

According to Dr. Íñigo Corcóstegui, Medical Director of Miranza Clínica Begoña, “the opening of these new operating rooms represents a very important step in our growth strategy and in our commitment to medical excellence. Incorporating state-of-the-art technology allows us to offer our patients increasingly advanced treatments, with higher levels of safety and precision”.

In this regard, Dr. Corcóstegui emphasizes that “the expansion of the surgical facilities will also enable us to increase our capacity to treat a greater number of patients and to continue developing highly complex ophthalmic procedures, always with the aim of improving people’s quality of life through eye health”.

Miranza Clínica Begoña has been part of Miranza since November 2021. Since then, the Bilbao-based clinic has driven a gradual process of technological modernization and growth, steadily improving its capacity to provide care.

Located in a three-story building next to the Basilica of Begoña, the clinic has more than three decades of experience, and its medical team is a benchmark in retina, cornea, refractive surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, oculoplastic surgery, dry eye treatment, and aesthetic surgery. One of its key strengths is its medical leadership, which embodies the tradition and excellence of six generations of ophthalmology specialists, led by Dr. Íñigo Corcóstegui.

The addition of the new operating rooms at Miranza Clínica Begoña will enable the center to handle a greater number of procedures, which until now were concentrated in the operating rooms at Miranza COI. In this regard, Dr. Ioana Romero, Medical Director of the latter center, states that the new facilities “will further strengthen the already close collaboration between both teams, combining efforts to improve patient care and optimize the Group’s resources”.

Currently, Miranza treats more than 55,000 patients annually in Bilbao and performs over 4,600 surgeries, figures it expects to increase both in number and quality of care thanks to the new facilities at Miranza Begoña and the renovation of the current surgical block at Miranza COI.
