We reaffirm our commitment to social work for groups facing challenges in accessing specialized eye care.

We’re making progress in prevention. This week, we hosted a day dedicated to raising awareness and promoting eye health at Plaza Alta in Algeciras (Cádiz). The campaign was organized in collaboration with the Algeciras City Council, the Official College of Opticians-Optometrists of Andalusia, and the ophthalmic technology company TOPCON.

The initiative is part of a basic eye screening campaign for students from various schools in Algeciras, aimed at identifying visual problems that could impact their academic performance and overall well-being. In addition to students, elderly individuals also participated.

The visual screening included several tests, such as tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure); refractometry (assessment of refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism); keratometry (measurement of corneal curvature); and pachymetry (measurement of corneal thickness).

Students and elderly individuals are two key groups where early detection of vision problems is especially important. Through the tests conducted, some of our ophthalmologists and optometrists provided guidance on good eye care habits, early detection of eye conditions, and the proper use of electronic devices.

“With this initiative, we aim not only to bring eye health to the streets, but also to strengthen ties with the community by promoting greater awareness of how to prevent visual issues and when to seek specialist care,” explained Guillermo Choquet, manager of Miranza clinics in Cádiz, Jerez, and Algeciras.

This action is part of Miranza’s ongoing commitment to health education, prevention of eye diseases, and collaboration with local institutions and companies like Topcon to improve people’s quality of life through eye care.
