Countdown to the Trends in Glaucoma and Barcelona Oculoplastics Congresses
IMO Grupo Miranza Barcelona will host this November more than 400 experts from around the world at two key events on the international calendar, focused on surgical innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and clinical excellence in eye health.
This month, our IMO Grupo Miranza center will become the venue for two congresses that will set the scientific pace of the specialty on a global scale: Trends in Glaucoma (TIG) on November 7–8, and Barcelona Oculoplastics (BOC) on November 14–15.
Both medical events will bring together leading speakers and techniques in innovation, clinical excellence, and forward-looking vision in a single setting, with the participation of the most prominent international experts in glaucoma and oculoplastic and aesthetic eye surgery.
With only a week between them, the two congresses will gather over 400 specialists from around the world, positioning IMO Grupo Miranza and Barcelona as epicenters of knowledge, research, and top-level ophthalmic surgery.
Trends in Glaucoma
Trends in Glaucoma (TIG), which celebrates its fourth edition this year, presents itself as a forum for in-depth analysis of the major challenges posed by this chronic condition, the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Under the direction of Dr. Elena Arrondo, Dr. Natalino Giuliano, and Dr. Maribel Acuña, the congress will offer a multidimensional program: from artificial intelligence (AI) applied to diagnosis, to innovative surgical techniques, emerging treatments, and strategies for therapeutic personalization.
Specifically, topics to be addressed include innovations in glaucoma diagnosis, advances in medical and laser treatment, and approaches to the disease from different parts of the world.
“The goal of TIG is to create a space where clinicians and surgeons can debate, question, and learn about glaucoma, integrating science, technology, and real-world experience. We are at a pivotal moment to transform the approach to this disease, and the congress will provide a unique platform to drive that change,” explains Dr. Elena Arrondo, a member of the event’s organizing committee and specialist in glaucoma and ocular hypertension at IMO Grupo Miranza.
Barcelona Oculoplastics
Meanwhile, Barcelona Oculoplastics (BOC), whose organizing committee is made up of highly respected specialists such as Drs. Miguel González-Candial, Marco Sales, Constanza Barrancos, Joan Oliveres, and Isabel Mayo, will address eyelid, orbital, and aesthetic surgery from a comprehensive perspective. During the congress, now in its sixth edition, live surgeries, periocular rejuvenation workshops, and sessions focused on reconstruction and oncoplasty will take place. The event not only explores the functional aspects of ocular and periocular structures but also addresses aesthetics and the emotional impact of the eyes. Since its inception, more than 1,700 specialists have attended this meeting.
The program will cover topics such as evolving thyroid eye disease, periocular eyelid oncology, oculofacial aesthetics, and oculofacial rejuvenation, among others.
Dr. Miguel González-Candial, a member of the organizing committee and specialist in oculoplastics, orbit, and lacrimal pathways at IMO Grupo Miranza Barcelona, highlights “the main attraction of the congress,” with surgeries broadcast live from the operating rooms, while also including the participation of “some of the most prominent figures in international oculoplastics, such as Robert Goldberg and Tanuj Nakra, among others,” he adds.
