With this appointment, which took place during the <strong>37th Congress of the Society<\/strong>, which was held in Zaragoza last weekend, the Basque ophthalmologist becomes the highest representative of specialists in intraocular implants for <a href=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/tratamientos\/operacion-de-cataratas\/\">cataract<\/a> and refractive surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, during the SECOIR meeting, Javier Mendicute received the Menezo-Quintana award, which was established in tribute to the founders of the Society and with which SECOIR recognises the relevance and career of the awarded professional in the field of eye surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/presidente-de-SECOIR.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/presidente-de-SECOIR.jpg 960w, https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/presidente-de-SECOIR-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/presidente-de-SECOIR-768x317.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A life devoted to ophthalmology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On Javier Mendicute\u2019s initiative, the Institute of Ophthalmology (later Begitek) was founded more than 25\u00a0years ago, including a clinic in San Sebastian and two consultation centres in Zarautz and Beasain, all of which he managed and which were integrated into Miranza in 2020. That same year, Javier Mendicute joined the Clinical Leaders Forum (CLF), Miranza\u2019s chartered medical management body, a unique model in ophthalmology in Spain, made up of professionals of national and international renown, who ensure excellence in care and leadership in ophthalmological innovation and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/mendicute-operacion.jpg\" alt=\"mendicute-operacion\" class=\"wp-image-40662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/mendicute-operacion.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/mendicute-operacion-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/miranza.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/mendicute-operacion-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his career, the ophthalmologist\u2019s activity has mainly focused <a href=\"https:\/\/miranza.es\/tratamientos\/cirugia-refractiva-laser\/\">on laser refractive surgery<\/a>, based on lasers and intraocular lenses, refractive lensectomy aimed at correcting presbyopia and cataract surgery. In addition to having become one of the most renowned specialists in Spain, Mendicute has also been Head of the Ophthalmology Service at the Donostia University Hospital since 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An important part of his activity is focused on teaching and training, as he has been the director of more than 50\u00a0courses and a lecturer with nearly 400\u00a0papers, as well as being a regular speaker at national and international conferences of the main professional societies in his field, such as the Spanish SEO and SECOIR, the European ESCRS and the US ASCRS, whose annual congresses he has attended for the last 25\u00a0years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The medical director at Miranza Begitek assumes the highest responsibility of the Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Eye Surgery, after more than five years as its vice-chairman.
